Let me introduce myself:
My name is Mehmet Yumusak. My interest and association with antique rugs are due to my family’s dealing with them in Turkey. My brothers and I learned from our uncles who started their business in 1967. I was taught how to clean and repair carpets from the time I was in grade school during our summer break. As I got older I spent more and more time in the business. I learned very quickly and by the time I was 16 I was a foreman in the shop where I was employed.
My brother and I decided to branch out and start our own business in 1992 in Aksaray which is in the Central Anatolian region of Turkey. As many of our customers were in Istanbul we relocated our business there in 1995, which my brother continues to operate. In 1999 I received an offer from a company in West Palm Beach, FL to repair and clean rugs. I was employed with them from that time until recently when Diamond Antique Oriental Rugs was conceived and became a reality.
Elmas, love of my life, my childhood sweetheart and two daughters, who are the lights of my life. In Turkish Elmas means diamond and she is the shining star of our business. As a child she also learned about carpets from her family. She designs, creates,and weaves carpets. Her expert repair is beyond comparison and will amaze even the veteran collector. She has been doing repairs, hand knotting and weaving for so long she no longer has a thumb print on either of her thumbs. I believe that to be successful in a business you must love what you are doing. We hope to prove through our service to you that this belief is true.
